Jill Scott is the only daughter of her mother Joyce Scott. She was born in Philadelphia the state of Pennsylvania on the 4th of April, 1972. She was also raised by her maternal grandmother, and was raised being an all-single child. Scott attended her school, the Philadelphia High School for Girls when she was a senior, and then she enrolled in Temple University. Scott was a student in secondary school and also worked at two other positions. She was hoping to become a high-school English teacher. She was unable to fulfill her dream, however, when after three years of studying and becoming a teaching assistant in college, she decided to leave. A poet by trade She began to sing in poetry performances live. Later, she joined forces along with Amir Quest Thompson (of The Roots) to form a group. They ended up collaborating in writing You Got Me. In Roots' performance, she revealed herself to be an artist. Following that, she started collaboration with other musicians such as Eric Benet Will Smith or Common. Additionally, she gained experience as an actor on The Canada stage of the Broadway musical Rent. She was the very first artist to sign with Hidden Beach Recordings.
